RETURNS

Everything made in our studio is custom made for you.  For this reason we can't accept returns.

WARRANTY

We guarantee items against quality defects.  Please inspect your item upon arrival and contact us within 7 days of receipt.  We can't provide a warranty after this period.  If your item is found to have a quality defect we will repair or replace it.  

If you have a warranty claim, please Contact Us with your order number and details about the product. We will respond quickly with instructions for how to return items from your order.  Warranty claims are limited to a repair or replacement with the same item.

Please note, natural materials will contain characteristic flaws that inherent to the material. These variations will not be considered grounds for a warranty claim. Examples include: slubs, flecks, minor variations in colour, faint streaks, knots and small pits.

Warranty claims are handled at our sole discretion. Straight Laser has authority over if, when and how reparations are made.

 

Laser Cutting

DESIGN

When providing graphic design services to clients, we retain the rights to the designs unless the purchase of additional rights are noted in a separate line item on the invoice.  

All quotes include production of the design and the fabrication of the item in our studio (if applicable).  

  • Quotes do not include a copy of the working file.  
  • Quotes do not include a license to reuse or reproduce our designs.  
  • Quotes do not include exclusive rights to our design.
  • Quotes do not include a license to have our design (or something very similar) fabricated in another shop.  

Each of the above scenarios requires the purchase of additional rights from Straight Laser.  Our licensing fees are below.

Quoting designs for a single-use scenario keeps costs to a minimum for the majority of our clients who want to produce their item at the lowest possible cost.

Additional licensing options are available for clients who would like to use our designs in other ways.  

You must purchase an additional license if:

  • You wish to have our designs fabricated in another shop or country
  • You'd like to transition something we've designed to your internal graphic artist
  • You'd like to have a copy of the working file 
  • You'd like to use our designs as a part of your website or online store
  • You'd like to use our designs in a logo or advertising campaign
  • You'd like to duplicate our designs through a different production process using a prototype we've developed

Our Licensing Fees

  • Rights to a Copy of the Working File (.ai, .eps and .pdf): +70% of initial design fee
  • Right to Reproduce our Designs in Digital Form*: +25% of initial design fee
  • Right to Reproduce our Designs in Physical Form: +100% of initial design fee
  • Right to Use our Designs In A Logo or Advertising Campaign: please Contact Us for a quote

*It is ok to post our work on social media if you give credit.  If you plan to use our design digitally as part of a for-profit venture (in your online store, in a corporate pitch deck or presentation, etc.) you must purchase a license.

 

CUTTING POLICY

We provide two service levels at Straight Laser:  

  • a cutting-only service
  • full service

Our policy when providing a cutting-only service:

When we are cutting items using client-provided files it is the client's sole responsibility to check their file for legibility, spelling errors and product integrity.  It is the client's responsibility to understand the material they have chosen and it's suitability for laser cutting.  We cannot be held responsible for issues stemming from a client file or a client's material selection.  

This includes but is not limited to portions of the cutting or etching that are too small, too large, too faint, don't interlock, that break as a result of being too thin, unsuitable material choices, material reacting differently than expected, etc.  It is the client's responsibility to check and troubleshoot for issues in advance of sending their file and making their material selection.  This cutting policy supersedes our Warranty.

You are always welcome to call or email to ask for advice on your project.  If we provide advice, you are still responsible for your file and material choice.

Our cutting policy when providing full service:

When we are cutting using a file we have created and materials we've chosen we guarantee our work to be of professional, industry-standard quality.  Our Returns & Warranty section below covers this in detail.  

Our full service policy does not apply to hybrid work.  That is any situation in which a file or material has originated with a client and we are making modifications to that file prior to cutting.  Our cutting-only policy applies to these situations.
